Garden Glossary

For those of you who are new to gardening, here's some help with the terminology
 

Main shoot
A basal cane or a strong lateral cane.
Mature plan
A plant that is old enough to produce blooms and seeds.
Mesophyll
The spongy inner tissue of a leaf, functionally similar to the cortex of stems and roots, where the raw materials - carbon dioxide and water vapor are held during the process of photosynthesis within the adjacent palisade cells.
Midrib
The primary rib or mid-vein of a leaf or leaflet.
Monoecious
Having separate male and female sex organs on the same plant. See Dioecious
