Corymbia citriodora is a tall and slender tree with smooth, sometimes dimpled creamy white with grey patches.
The smooth trunk can sometimes appear lumpy this is 'muscle wood' put on the by the tree to give the trunk extra strength. This muscle wood can also be seen as wrinkles under the branches as they join the trunk, again this is to strengthen the joint.
It has an open crown and lovely grey green leaves, these are long and narrow with yellow petioles, when crushed give off a strong lemon fragrance.
It bears very attractive creamy white fluffy (polystemanous) flowers in winter followed by warty urn shaped capsules.
Prefer full sun and will tolerate the strong western sun. They are 2nd line salt tolerant, pollution and neglect tolerant, once established they will tolerate short droughts.
These beautiful trees are too large for most average gardens but in parks they make great shade trees. They also attract all types of birds.
