Portulaca grandiflora or the Moss Rose is a fast growing annual succulent, with a spreading habit.
It has small, fleshy, lance shaped leaves on reddish stems.
The open flowers, in white and shades of red, pink, yellow and purple close at night and on cloudy days.
They are an excellent bedding plant, especially the double varieties and also go very well in pots and planters.
They do however spread easily and will often be seen growing in between paving stones in pathways.
