Chlorophytum comosum or the Spider Plant is a fast growing perennial with arching cream and green striped grass-like leaves that look best when grown in a hanging basket though can be good over a wall or rockery or even a groundcover under trees.
It produces long weak stems that carry the small white, star shaped flowers which are followed by small plantlets afterwards.
If layered these will take root quite easily, therefore if planted in a bed they can spread quite fast. As a result they do make a good groundcover.
