Hibiscus moscheutos and its cultivars are commonly known as the Swamp Rose Mallow. It is a herbaceous perennial known for its large showy flowers and attractive leaves. The size will depend on the variety - they tend to grow between 1-2m tall and spread between 60cm to 1.2m
They are vigorous growers but have a compact habit and produce mid green, shallowly lobed lance shaped leaves.
They do loose their leaves in winter but for post gardeners are prepared to put up with bare stems over winter so they can enjoy the wonderful of flowers from mid-summer to early autumn.
The flowers are large, showy, dinner plate sized, funnel shaped and come in shades of red, pink and white with a sharply contrasting eye.
