Lacecap hydrangeas are becoming a popular option for gardeners trying to create a cottage or a woodland garden.
Each flower head consists of a cluster of tiny fertile flowers in the centre surrounded by an outer border of large showy flowers.
They will grow in sun and shade, in areas with hot summers they do better with some protection from the harsh summer sun.
The colour of hydrangeas varies with the pH of the soil - the flowers tend to be white or pink in alkaline soils and blue in more acid soils.
