Lonicera japonica or Japanese honeysuckle is a very fast growing twining climber with simple, oval shaped, mid green leaves and double tongues creamy white flowers that are sweetly fragrant.
The flowers mature to small, round, black berries around 4mm across that contain a few seeds.
Due to its fast growth and dense habit it makes an excellent ground cover and will scramble over a trellis in no time therefore making a good, quick screen.
It is drought tolerant, leafs up early and drops them late so can be popular as a result, however it can become invasive without due care and attention and has been classified as a noxious weed in many parts of the world.
