Fragaria chiloensis is one of the parent species of the modern strawberry. It is not often grown but is known for its large fruit.
It is low growing ground covering plant with glossy trifoliate leaves that are hairy underneath. The flowers are white and open faced with a bright yellow centre.
The fruits are bright scarlet and ripen in late summer and autumn.
It spreads by runners, small plantlets growing along each runner, these can be left and the plant allowed to spread or removed and planted elsewhere.
