Calceolaria Herbeohybrida is a group of ornamental hybrids with a compact bushy habit and clusters of brightly coloured flowers. Commonly grown as house plants thrown away when flowering season is over.
Within this group there are two sub groups defined by the flower and cluster size. Grandiflora group - clusters of 5-15 flowers. Multiflora group has clusters with more slightly smaller flowers.
The showy flowers are oval with a swollen pocket-like lower lip, said to resemble an old fashion ladies purse. Although colours in the range include yellows, reds and oranges, the vast majority of varieties are yellow with red markings, anything from a few delicate spots to a mottled pattern covering much of the the swollen lower lip.
