During summer and autumn it produces spectacular large purple flowers and for this reason has been one of the most popular in domestic gardens.
It is a frost hardy climber and will climb over anything, like tree stumps, pergolas, gazebos, fences etc. as long as its top is in sun but the roots are kept cool.
