Tillandsia cyanea is an epiphytic plant which derives food and water through its leaves.
A member of the pineapple family, it has a cup-forming rosette of narrow, curving, deep green leaves which may be purplish when young.
The spectacular, paddle-shaped flower heads rise on tall stems.
They consist of overlapping, pink or red bracts from which deep violet/blue flowers emerge.
