Viola banksii or The Native Violet is a creeping, evergreen perennial with bright green leaves that are kidney shaped and form a good dense mat for ground-cover.
The small and delicate flowers are mostly white with a purple centre and appear singly, almost all year round atop slender stalks.
They do not have a scent but can be picked to garnish salads and are generally edible.
They spread by the trailing stolons that will readily root at the nodes as they touch the soil.
Excellent in pots for shady parts of the patio, they will also cover large shady areas of garden where other plants won't easily thrive.
