Overview
The light green leaves of this plant are toothed and eliptical.
Spikes of scarlet flowers are produced over a long period from summer to early winter.
There are 20 to 30 flowers on each spike and as each plant has many branched stems it gives the appearance of being a shrub even though it is a perennial.
Soil: Well drained, light textured soils which are rich in organic material.
Maintenance: Feed monthly with complete fertiliser.
Trim dead flowers to increase yield. Cut back by 2/3 in winter.
Other Species: This is the largest genus of the mint family and contains over 900 species.
