Tropaeolum majus or Nasturtium have large, orb-like leaves that are bright green above and paler green below.
The brightly coloured five-petalled, spurred flowers come in several forms and colours and are produced prolifically during late spring and summer, though they continue to produce lower volumes all year round.
The plants may be trailing, non-trailing or climbers and the flowers may be single or double.
They reseed from year to year and flower almost continuously.
Care is needed to contain them, though they do make a splendid sight when left to sprawl over mounds or rough ground.
