Platycodon grandiflorus is a semi-tuberous, herbaceous perennial with a clumping habit.
The attractive clumps of serrated, elliptical leaves emerge in spring and die down for winter.
In Summer balloon-like, inflated buds open out into 5-petalled, bell-like flowers which are coloured blue, purple, pink or white.
This is a pretty summer flower that goes well in mixed borders and cottage style gardens.
