Quercus rubra or the Red Oak is a tall, broad canopied, deciduous tree with deeply lobed, matt green, pointed foliage that will turn autumnal colours and hang on the tree for some time.
It tends towards a straight central trunk with branches that droop outwards and are heavily laden with leaves.
It has shiny grey bark that ages dark brown and it produces seeds as acorns, a large nut in a cup.
A very long lived tree and not one for most domestic gardens due to its eventual size.
