A fast growing and sprawling low growing perennial herbaceous plant with weak stems and simple burgundy coloured pointed foliage.
It produces dense clusters of small flowers in summer that come in a variety of colours but is largely grown for its striking foliage that makes a strong contrast in borders.
Plant Alternanthera dentata in positions that have a mix of sun and shade throughout the day for best results. they can get a little straggly so a quick trim during summer once or twice will keep it neat.
Grow as ground cover or as a low hedge where they work particularly well as an edge to pathways.
