Acer griseum or the Paperbark Maple is a connoisseurs Maple, having a gloriously flaky or corky brown bark which peels to reveal new orange bark underneath.
It has a narrow crown and straight trunk.
The leaves are small, dark green trifoliate and oval whilst being a darker blue green underneath.
As with all maples, they turn to crimson and gold in autumn.
It is hardy and prefers cooler climates.
