Acorus gramineus or Sweet Flag is a rhizomatous aquatic perennial that is found commonly on stream banks in the Northern hemisphere.
It has a grass-like appearance with many flattened, strap shaped leaves growing in dense clusters from small rhizomes, and both the leaves and rhizomes are sweetly scented.
It has small inconspicuous flowers, so this plant is grown mainly for its foliage and is useful for water features and boggy sites.
Cultivars include:
'Ogon' - variegated cultvar has cream and green stripes along the length of the leaves.
'Variegatus' - variegated cultvar has light cream stripes along the length of the leaves.
