Epacris longiflora is a small, open, evergreen, heath-type shrub with sharp, pointed leaves, and branches that will bend under the weight of the bright red, tubular shaped flowers that have white tips.
The flowers are around 40mm long and appear in early spring and again in autumn and are the key reason to grow the plant because the shrub itself is rather straggly with long, arching branches - but the flowers are a wonderful sight, with up to 100 per arching branch.
Good as cut flowers they also attract nectar feeding birds and insects to your garden.
it will tolerate a light frost but prefers warmer climates.
It is OK in coastal settings but doesn't like strong, direct winds.
