Thunbergia alata is a tender perennial climber popularly known as Black-Eyed Susan.
It is a small and dainty vine with a twining habit, deep green, heart-shaped leaves and masses of five petaled, golden orange flowers with a black centre which appear from early Summer to Autumn.
There are plenty of variations on the orange flowers with varieties now available in shades of red, orange, white, and yellows and they all make a superb colour splash in gardens, especially when trailing over fences where they are at their best.
This is a fast grower and a quick plant to bloom and therefore goes very well in pots on patios.
It is an annual in cool areas and a perennial in frost free areas.
