Arundo donax or the Giant Reed is a very tall grass with striking foliage but it needs lots of space.
Drooping leaves are green and can also be green with white stripes.
They produce feathery flower heads on spikes right at the top.
It can be invasive so it requires to be controlled and is classified as a weed in NSW.
Makes a good screen - albeit a rather informal one (for informal read messy).
Due to invasive nature we do not suggest that it be grown domestically.
Plant illustrated here was seen at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, where it is controlled by the horticulturalists.
