A hardy, clump forming perennial with tuffets of mid green, fern like foliage and bell shaped flowers on long stems.
The flowers, that come in a wide variety of colours, have a spur shape behind the main hood of he bloom - some likening it to a "Grannys Bonnet". The most common colour though is deep blue or electric blue.
They are commonly seen in border plantings, providing a delicate splash of informal late spring and early summer colour.
Good in city courtyard gardens and they also go well as under plantings to taller roses and shrubs. Essentially they have an informal, almost wild air about them, a very useful attribute for adding a carefree atmosphere.
