Melia azedarach is a large and spreading, deciduous tree with shiny, bipinnate leaves.
In late spring it bears large clusters of star-like mauve to lilac, delicately scented flowers.
Green berries follow, these turn creamy orange in autumn that last over winter.
Often used as feature tree because of wonderful flower display in spring. Also used as a street and shade tree, it can be planted in windy and coastal conditions and will tolerate pollution and drought.
