Cyrtanthus elatus or the Scarborough Lily has large, vivid scarlet, lily-like flowers, that tower above the strap shaped leaves,
Growing from bulbs, they produce these very showy flowers from mid Summer through to Autumn, then the foliage dies back.
They like a mild to warm climate and are very easy to grow, going well in borders and especially well in pots - one bulb per 12cm pot or three bulbs per 25cm pot.
Not frost hardy, they look a treat when planted in drifts in the garden.
