One of New Zealand's national symbols the Silver Tree Fern is a slow growing single trunked plant with fronds up to 3m long.
It is marginally frost hardy and needs shelter from strong winds.
Soil: Deep, moist soils that are well drained.
Maintenance: Remove dead fronds, water the trunk often, especially in dry, hot waether and spray the canopy as well now and again.

Comments: This is the plant frond that is the symbol of the All Blacks NZ rugby team.
The mauri name for it is Kaponga but it has become shortened to Ponga.
