Blandfordia grandiflora or Christmas Bells is a clump forming plant with narrow rigid leaves and long thin stems that carry up to 10 tubular flowers aloft. They appear in profusion around mid December, hence their common name.
The flowers are spectacular being flaring tubular shape and bright red with golden lips.
They are also quite waxy which enhances their colour and ensures they remain a popular cut flower and are now grown commercially as a feature flower.
They attract honeyeaters when in flower along with other nectar feeding birds and insects.
the flowers mature to long, narrow seed pod capsules that hold small, velvety seeds.
