A delicate, prostrate perennial of creeping habit.
It has bright green clover type foliage and pretty white or pink flowers in spring and summer.
This woodland plant prefers it shady and moist and therefore grows well under trees.
Soil: Moist and fertile soils with plenty of organic matter - just like a woodland.
Maintenance: Keep up the water in wartm conditions and a liquid feed in spring will help.
Diseases: None of note.
Other Species: 500 species including O. hirta with lovely deep magenta flowers, O. citrina with yellow flowers and O. tuberosa which is the root vegetable "Oca".
Comments: Name is Greek for "sharp" referring to the acidic taste of the foliage. Was uses once as a thirst quencher by European harvesters.
Author: Bob Saunders.
