Cyperus papyrus or the Egyptian Paper Plant is a clump forming, water loving, perennial with long reed like stems with feathery plume heads of foliage on top.
It produces tiny brown flowers in summer and will grow in water if you choose.
It is immensely elegant if you have the space to view it at a distance over water.
This was the material first collected to make paper, while also being used to make sandals, mats, baskets, fencing, rope and boats.
Now a rare plant in the Nile Delta, it is considered invasive in Florida.
