Parrotia persica or the Persian Witch Hazel is a deciduous, short trunked tree or shrub with diamond-shaped leaves.
In autumn the leaves turn wonderful shades of red, orange and finally yellow. The colder the climate the more spectacular the foliage.
In late winter and early spring clusters of small petalless flowers with bright red stamen can be seen along the branches.
After a hard cold winter it is a sign that spring is on its way.
