A tall evergreen tree with upwards sloping branchlets forming an irregular conical habit.
The leaves are tiny scales lining a blackish green cladode, (a modified stem that can photosynthesise) forming a needle like appearance.
Plants are either male or female with male trees bearing solitary flower spikes on the ends of the branches, while femaile flowers are reddish brown and borne in clusters.
Its bark is distinctly fissured (rough). One of the best features of this plant is the soft rustling sounds which it produces during strong winds and small breezes - very relaxing!
