Arenaria montana is a hardy low growing perennial with a dense mat-like habit with glossy grey-green leaves forming mounds 5 to 15cm high.
Single or clusters of five petalled, white flowers with greenish yellow centres are borne on stems which are held slightly above the foliage.
When in full bloom the flowers almost obscure the foliage.
This pretty plant is very frost hardy and an excellent addition to rock gardens, containers and for filling out small crevices and rock ledges.
