Parthenocissus quinquefolia or the Virginia Creeper is a climber which has tendrils with tiny disk-shaped suckers.
These will stick to walls and fences to help the plant climb and cover the supporting structure - which if not normally attractive can look great when covered - especially in autumn as the colours change.
Virginia Creeper is similar in overall appearance as Boston Ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata) but has a weaker grip than Boston Ivy, but they both cover unsightly objects really well.
Virginia Creeper's compound, palmate leaves are purple when immature, expand to a dark green and then, in cooler climates, colour richly to shades of red in autumn before they fall, however this will only occur when planted in full sun positions.
Great for covering walls and will grow on any vertical surface.
