Malus x domestica 'Granny Smith' is Australia's most famous apple creation.
It is a hardy, spreading, deciduous tree with dark brown, scaly bark, oval, dark green leaves with downy undersides and shoots, and lovely, delicate, spring blossoms of white with pink tinges.
These mature to juicy green fruits with white to greenish yellow flesh that is crisp with a slightly tart flavour.
These heavy croppers are prized for eating, cooking, drying and for cider production.
Apples are dioecious, so another cultivar nearby is necessary for it to fruit. "Golden Delicious" can be used as a pollinator.
