Bergenia cordifolia is a pretty, shade-loving perennial that grows in a clumping manner.
It has large, rounded to heart-shaped, dark green leaves that are tinted bronze, especially in autumn.
Short red stems carry pretty heads of pink and red flowers in late winter to early springtime.
It will spread to make an effective groundcover and is a very useful woodland garden plant while also going well in planters and pots.
Main flowering time is spring but will produce flowers sporadically at other times.
Frost hardy.
