Alnus orientalis or the Syrian Alder is an erect conical evergreen tree with drooping slender branches.
The leaves of this tree are dark glossy green with uneven serrated margins (the edges of the leaves) and brown catkins are produced in spring, eventually turning woody.
This is a very fast growing tree, useful for building a quick screen or shade tree.
In its natural habitat it lives along the riverbanks, this makes it useful for moist sites and for drinking up moisture from wet/problem areas.
