Dryopteris filix-mas is an attractive deciduous fern with long, linear fronds that have an arching habit and emerge as a clump from upright rhizomes. The overall shape resembles that of a shuttlecock.
This is a useful fern for creating foliage texture in damp, cool, shaded sites though it will also withstand plenty of direct sun too, making it very versatile for difficult locations. Though it will need mulch and plenty of moisture if in full sun.
This frost hardy fern is good for cottage style gardens, informal and meadow gardens.
