Phaseolus coccineus, or the common Runner Bean is a fast growing climber bean with large, mid green, leathery leaves.
It produces pretty, pea like, scarlet flowers that mature to long flat bean pods that have a curled point end.
You will need a good support for them, either a tee-pee or long 'A' frame made from sturdy poles and tied firmly.
It is best to continually harvest as it promotes more growth.
Three to four plants will keep a family of four going well through most of the summer.
This is sometimes known as Dutch Runner Bean.
