Brassica rapa pekinensis or Chinese Cabbage is an easy to grow variation on cabbage - sometimes called Celery Cabbage as it slightly resembles Celery.
Thick, crisp, white stems fan out into crinkly green leaves that tightly overlap to make a solid hearted vegetable.
Excellent in stir fry and other Asian recipes.
This plant does prefer cool conditions and will therefore bolt to seed in the hottest part of an Australian summer. However seedlings planted out in spring and autumn will reward with a fast growing, crisp, mild-flavoured and nutritious harvest.
Although always bets when eaten fresh, you can dry the leaves and use later in soups and stews
