Corymbia ficifolia is a spectacular tree with a spreading crown and terminal clusters of bright red to orange flowers during summer.
The flowers do not have any petals, it is the many coloured stamen that give the flowers their fluffy appearance. Large urn shaped capsules follow the flowers, these make an attractive addition to a flower arrangement.
The elegant lanceolate foliage is 8-15cms in length, emerges as coppery/bronze then changes to be dark green on top and paler underneath so it will remain an attractive garden specimen all year round.
This species does best in Western Australia where the summers are hot and dry and the winters warm and wet.
Several cultivars have now been developed that tolerate the more humid conditions of Eastern Australia.
