Pycnosorus globosus or Billy Buttons is an interesting, tufted perennial producing cherry tomato sized primrose yellow spheres on 60cm wiry stems. They will provide strong colour all through spring and summer.
They cut and last well while the stiff stems make them very useful for floral arrangements.
Combine plantings in grassland or mixed perennial borders, also very good when planted en masse for strong colour feature and in rockeries.
They make an excellent groundcover and can withstand some frost but are considered only marginally hardy.
Billy Buttons go really well in dry gravel style gardens, cottage borders or as a foreground plant in native borders.
