Geranium sanguineum is a low growing rhizomatous herbaceous perennial with a clump forming habit.
The long stalked leaves are palmately lobed and deep green colour, it is the leaves that give the plant a soft and rounded form.
The flowers are a vibrant magenta in colour and cup-shaped and bloom in profusion throughout summer.
These plants do best in a sunny position growing in moist well drained soils where they make great filler plants along borders or garden beds or rockeries.
Geranium sangiuneum var. striatum has delicate pink flowers with darker pink veins.
