Pinus englemannii is a medium sized, upright tree with a rounded but open crown.
The foliage is dull green and needle-like and clustered into bundles which droop close to the end of twigs.
Branches are very strong and sparse making for an open and angular appearance.
The bark starts off grey to brown but gets darker as it ages to a reddy-brown colour with deep furrows. This combined with the straightness of the trunk makes it an attractive specimen.
These distinctive trees make a good landscaping feature in larger gardens and parklands.
