A very attractive palm up to 10m tall, with long plumose leaves and a grey trunk. It bears very attractive feathery fronds creating a striking statement. It has a slightly bottle-shaped 20-25cm thick trunk and prominently displays its ring markings produced by the fallen fronds. It also produces black ribbed seeds encased in large orange-red fruit.
This spectacular palm was only discovered in the late 1970's and was released onto the market in the mid 90s. It is now grown worldwide by avid palm fanciers.
