A stiff stemmed deciduous shrub that grows to about 1m in height.
It has small green leaves on cane stems and pinkish to green flowers that turn to green, veined berries that are covered in fine hairs.
It is difficult to grow in Australia unless you live in a frost zone as it really needs a below zero winter to fruit at its best.
Some cultivars have yellow and even reddish fruits but they all distinguish themselves with an extraordinary tart taste, but they are at their best when cooked and sweetened in pies and jams.
