Brassica napus naprobrassica or the common Swede is a rounded root crop that also produces good quality green leaf crops that are called 'greens'.
The root is similar to a turnip but rounded instead of being a tapering cylindrical shape.
They need to be diced and boiled before mashing with some butter and lots of freshly ground black pepper for a delicious result.
They are also an excellent addition to stews.
The flesh starts creamy coloured but when cooked will become light orange.
This is ancient Viking food (hence its common name) and is packed with nutritional benefits.
