It has an open habit, tough, leathery, green leaves with toothed edges and wiry red flowers appear at the branch ends in spring. Not quite as full in flower as the T. speciosissima, it however bears more flower heads, making a striking display while attracting birds to your garden.
Not easy to get established due to its need for organisms around its roots that find pots a difficult place to live. Once established they are easy to maintain and can produce abundant floral displays in the right conditions.
