Banksia epica is a shrub that grows on the south coast of Western Australia and was only discovered in 1841, with samples collected in 1973.
It is a spreading bush to 3.5 metres high, with wedge-shaped serrated leaves and large creamy-yellow flower spikes up to 15 cms long, which start green and change colour as they mature.
Its bark is grey and deeply fissured.
This is a rarity in horticulture and would only be available by special order from Western Australian specialist growers.
It has a very similar appearance to Banksia media which is very commonly available.
