Hymenocallis littoralis or the Beach Spider-Lily is a bulb species that produces 60cm long, strappy leaves and wonderful, large, spider-like white flowers from summer through to autumn.
The 15cm wide flowers are very unusual in that the centre part is simple and not unlike a convolvulus, but there are also very long and thin petals that protrude outwards making for a scintillating star shape.
As they sway in the breeze, on their 70cm long stems, these fabulous blooms release an enticingly sweet fragrance, all adding to their tropical charms.
