Rosa sempervirens or the Evergreen Rose was originally found in Mediterranean parts of Europe and produces corymbs of white, open-faced, fragrant flowers around 3-4cms in diameter, with hairy styles in spring and early summer.
The foliage is glossy, compound-pinnate and evergreen and the stems have lightly curved prickles. As such it rambles easily and is excellent at covering eyesores or walls in your garden.
The small orangey red fruits, or hips, develop in late autumn.
It is a natural climber, reaching up to 5m, providing that it has something to scramble up, and its evergreen nature made it popular for hybridising in middle ages France.
